The Freedom Ship has been named the world’s most expensive cruise ship by travel magazine Flightsports International, beating out the $543 million Princess Cruises by $13 million.
Freedom Ship, which is the world leader in luxury cruise shipping, will sail from Sydney to Melbourne, New York and Sydney Harbour, Australia, with stops in Sydney, Sydney Harbour and Melbourne on the way.
It will arrive in the United States in the spring, making its maiden voyage on July 17, 2019.
Flightsports’ report says the Freedom Ship is the most expensive luxury cruise ever built.
The Freedom Ship cost about $50 million more than the Princess Cruisers, but the two ships will share nearly the same capacity of 8,000 people and 3,500 crew members, Flightsport said.
Its cost per passenger was $1,300 more than its sister, the Princess Royal, the report said.
Its owner, American cruise line Liberty Cruises, will be making its first profit since its 2010 bankruptcy.
This was the first time a ship has been listed as one of the top 10 most expensive in the world, according to Flightscience.
The other three top 10 are the $2.5 billion Norwegian Cruise Line, the $4.5-billion Norwegian Cruise Lines West Indies and the $6.5 million KLM A/S Cruises.
Flightsport says Freedom Ships is “the world’s best-known luxury cruise vessel”.
The ship will be powered by two Rolls-Royce engines, each with a capacity of 1,600 passengers and 15 crew members.
The Freedom ships first class will have a capacity for 7,500 passengers and 10 crew members while first class can carry up to 16,500 people and 18,500 workers.
