This is the first time a Sailor Moon film has been made and is set after the events of Sailor Moon: Crystal, which came out in 1998.
And with a budget of $60 million and a production budget of around $200 million, it’s not a film you’d expect to be a hit.
“I don’t think there’s a more underrated movie in the history of cinema,” said Mark Bresciani, president of Paramount Pictures.
“It’s just so well done.”
But despite the success of the first movie, there are still plenty of fans who don’t love the film.
And this is one of them.
The story takes place in a dystopian future where people are not allowed to go on holiday and there’s no place for children, so a lot of the characters are older and more mature.
And it’s also a lot darker.
The cast includes a woman who’s not allowed by law to be seen with anyone under 17, and the film’s final scene takes place on the moon.
But despite all of this, the film is very much a cult classic and many people still talk about it, even though it’s in the midst of a worldwide release.
“Sailor Moon has always been a movie that people really loved to watch, and this is a film that people still love to watch,” said Bresca.
“And I think that’s why it’s such a great film.
Because it’s a classic and I think people still like it.”
What’s next for Sailor Moon?
“I can’t really talk about the future right now,” said Steven Henson, the director of the film who also wrote and directed the script for the sequel.
But he does say he’s not ready to start shooting yet, but he’s been working on it.
The sequel is expected to hit theaters in 2018, so if you can’t wait that long, you can check out this behind-the-scenes video of the original film.
